Comlent Semiconductor
(Shanghai) Ltd.
Established in middle 2002, Comlent is a fabless RFIC design house headquartered in Shanghai, China with a US R&D Center in Southern California.
Comlent's current focus is on the explosive wireless communications markets in Greater China and Asia Pacific: PHS/PAS, 2.4GHz short range devices, and TD-SCDMA 3G mobile and potentially China’s own GPS system, Wi-Fi, and DTV/HDTV tuners in the future. Comparing to existing solutions, Comlent’s chip set achieves higher integration therefore lower cost. Comlent’s BiCMOS based PA can also remove capacity issue of GaAs PA that is widely used in PHS/PAS terminals. Comlent's potential customers are Chinese vendors and ODMs who design, manufacture and sell wireless terminals for both domestic and global markets.
Comlent has so far raised approximately US$9.5+ million funding with a plan to expand the team to nearly 60 full time employees in the near future. Investors include Intel, 3i, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and individual investors include the Chairman of MediaTek and Board Director of Marvel. Comlent expects to ship products in the near future and projects to receive significant annual revenue in Year 2005.
Co-founders and core team members of Comlent are semiconductor professionals from IBM, TI, Conexant, Broadcom, and National Semiconductor in the US.
The strategic value of the company lies in the combination of Greater China’s already largest but still exponentially growing wireless markets, experienced RFIC product development and engineering team, deep penetration into Chinese market and strong support for local innovation, time-to-market and cost reduction.
